Circa 1941, 8x10 still photo from the stage play version of Lillian Hellman’s, “Watch on the Rhine”.
This photo has been signed by both Paul Lukas and Mady Christians. Lukas has signed in a thick gray ink. Christians has signed in thick black India ink. She has also added “Best Regards From” above her signature.
Watch on the Rhine premiered on Broadway at the Martin Beck Theatre on April 1, 1941, and ran for 378 performances, closing February 21, 1942.
The photo is fine but does have some issues. Someone wrote, something indecipherable, in heavy handed pencil on the verso. The pressure marks show through on the front.
