Bio: Irving Grant Thalberg (May 30, 1899 – September 14, 1936) was an American film producer during the early years of motion pictures. “The Boy Wonder”. In 1923, Irving Thalberg was the 24-year-old head of production at Universal Pictures, where he produced the silent film classic The Hunchback of Notre Dame starring Lon Chaney.
Early in 1923, Citing creative disagreements and salary disputes with Universal founder Carl Laemmle, Thalberg left Universal to join Louis B. Mayer Productions. He took on the role of vice president and head of production for Louis B. Mayer's company, beginning a partnership that would define Hollywood's Golden Age. This move was a pivotal career moment, setting the stage for him to oversee production at the newly formed Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) studio after a 1924 merger."
In 1936, Thalberg was diagnosed with pneumonia while on the set of the Marx Brothers film, A Day at the Races. His condition worsened steadily, and he eventually required an oxygen tent at home. He died on September 14, at the age of 37
