Rathbone, Basil - Signed - 1939 "Sherlock Holmes" Photo - One of a Kind! - Rare!
Vintage Signed - 1939 – 7 ¼ x 8 ¾ Photograph that was matted & Framed when I acquired it. This is a vintage image of Basil Rathbone, in character as Sherlock Holmes. Complete with his “Deerstalker” hat and “Peterson 309 pipe”. It doesn't get much better than this!
The photo is signed and dedicated in the left upper corner.
“To Robert Vincent, with best wishes, sincerely Basil Rathbone”.
The inscription and signature are faded yet very legible. Comes with a certificate of authenticity from R & R Enterprises.
Faults noted and scanned… Small blue inclusion under his eye. Small gouge near his collar line. In the original frame, the photo was adhered to a thick board. Matting remnants remain on the back side of the board, which are of an aged adhesive that probably dates to the 1930’s. I believe being attached to the board, helped protect the image from the typical wear that a 90 plus year old photo should exhibit. Besides the fading, the image is in excellent condition.
Uncommon in signed Sherlock Holmes images. This is the first I’ve come across in 45 plus years of collecting Vintage Hollywood.
