Stewart, James - 1952 Signed Business Check w/ Orig. 1949 Still - "The Stratton Story"
Green personal check dated April 9, 1952, Drawn on “Olympic Investment Co Inc” account. The check is for $140.47, payable to H.L. Byram, Tax Collector. The check measures 3 1/16 x 8 9/16. It has been signed, in black ink, in the lower right corner by James Stewart.
It has also been signed by the secretary of the Investment Company. It is very fine with typical Bank hole punch perforations, well away from Stewart’s signature. Purple and red bank deposit handstamps on verso.
In 1952, actor James Stewart entered a significant business partnership with Olympic Investment Co. to form Pacific Farms. The company focused on high-value agricultural land and cattle ranching. This was a common "tax hedge" for high-earning stars in the 1950s, allowing them to reinvest film earnings into tangible assets.
One of Stewart's most famous agricultural holdings was the massive Wine Cup/Gamble Ranch in Elko County, Nevada. Though his ownership of such properties was often managed through various corporate shells like Pacific Farms, he was personally involved in the oversight of these investments.
Comes with an original 1949 MGM 8x10 still photo of James Stewart in, “The Stratton Story”. A couple of the usual minor surface bends. Three dog eared corners. The image area is very fine. Blue typed Spanish language descriptive text on verso.
