Oct. 27, 1925, ALS on a folded four page, 5 ½ x 7 (unfolded is 7x11) “Ritz – Carlton Hotel – New York” letterhead embossed stationary sheet. Handwritten by Marie Dressler in black fountain pen. Marie writes to a fan.

“It is kind of you to want my picture & I will be delighted to send you one when I can get some made. Not expecting to return so suddenly to the footlights. I had no photos. Am keeping your letter & when I get them, will most certainly send one. Thank you so much for your encouraging words, really sincerely, Marie Dressler – Oct. 27th, 25.”

This ALS was written during her vaudeville tour. The show she appeared in was titled "Old Timer's Week,". It opened in New York on October 19, 1925. It was her last stage appearance in New York before her film career revived several years later.

In the mid-1920s, Dressler was struggling to find work and was living in near poverty. Her stage career suffered after she was blacklisted for her involvement in the Actors' Equity strike of 1919. She also found it difficult to secure work in films.

Her career would not be revived until 1927, when MGM screenwriter Frances Marion helped her return to film in Hollywood. Dressler would go on to win an Oscar for her role in the 1930 film Min and Bill.
