Bio: Ricardo Cortez (born Jacob Krantz; 1899-1977) was an American actor and director of Austrian-Hungarian Jewish heritage who began his film career during the silent era. After arriving in Hollywood, studios marketed him as a "Latin lover" to capitalize on the popularity of actors like Rudolph Valentino, although he had no Spanish ancestry. Cortez transitioned to talkies, where his strong voice made him ideal for playing "heavies" and character roles, including the original Sam Spade in The Maltese Falcon (1931). After an acting and directing career, he returned to Wall Street as a successful stockbroker, a career he'd had before acting
