June 20, 1966, ANS on a 3x5 yellow / beige card with “From Stanley Kubrick” imprint at bottom border. Handwritten note, to his assistant, Lydia Wilen,
“June 20, 1966, Dear Lydia, Roger! Best Stan” in black ink.
Comes with the original transmittal Air Mail envelope, which has a return address from Hawk Films MGM Studios Borehamwoods, England. The envelope has a postal meter advertisement for the then in production, “2001 A Space Odyssey”. A full two years before the April 1968 release of the film.
Diagonal “opening” tear to envelope through the 2001 postal meter printing. Still displays as whole. Very fine. Unusual handwritten note from Stanley Kubrick. Is there a better signed 2001 and collectible?
This letter comes from the files of Lydia Wilen assistant to Stanley Kubrick from about 1963 to 1965. Lydia maintained her friendship with Kubrick and continued their correspondence well into the 1970’s.
